Gordon F. Bavor, 1922-2011


Gordon F. Bavor served from ??????????????, discharged with the rank of Sergeant. A Radio Operator in the South Pacific, Sgt. Bavor served with the 403rd Bombardment Squadron before being transferred to the crew of Major General Enis Whitehead's personnel transport aircraft. Bavor served in Dutch New Guinea; Owi Island, Leyte; Clark Field and Tacloban in the Philippines and in le Shima, Japan.

Bavor's collection incorporates extensive photographic coverage of a his experience during World War II--from the earliest days of training at Chanute Field in Rantoul, Illinois to post-surrender mainland Japan. These photos depict all aspects of the daily life of a young soldier in the South Pacific. His official documents outline service during World War II.
