S.Sgt. Wade Kehr, Letter to "Marg + Jim", 10 September 1944

Subject

Correspondence (personal)

Description

A three-page typed letter from S.Sgt. Wade Kehr to "Marg + Jim." The letter was most likely written at the American camp at Owi Island, NEI.

S.Sgt. Kehr reports that he is "on the first list going home." He was asked whether he would like to go home or go on leave and then "sweat it out." S.Sgt. Kehr suggests he preferred the later. He also states that he had "been grounded" for the previous two weeks during which time he did nothing but lay around and read.

S.Sgt. Kehr reported that he was finding it very hard to write. He hadn't returned many letters and took three to four days to finish this one. S.Sgt. Kehr also notes that they finally sent home a group of ground crews. The servicemen had been in the theater for 30 months.

In concluding, S.Sgt. reports that the men of the 403rd received their first issue of beer.
